Create a Culture of Engagement

After being at a job for a period of time, I usually notice some ways to improve how to approach projects, what technology or method changes could be beneficial, or what kind of innovative projects should be worked on in order to provide a better service for our customers.

This way of pushing innovation is the main driver for my motivation at my job. Advancing the way the team, business unit, or the company is working I think not only improves revenue, but it also boosts overall contentment.

The flip side is if there is no way to share ideas, if people don’t want to listen or always ignore initiatives, if this kind of behavior is not incentivized or innovation is not honored, or if your ideas get sold as someone else’s ideas, this frustrates me hugely.

For me, improvement not only of myself but also the people and organization around me is a key part of my job, and not being able to do that properly has always been a factor in my career decisions.

I think I am not alone in thinking this way.

It would be great if companies would put more effort into creating a culture of engagement, in which employees' voices are not only heard but speaking up and acting on improvements is actively encouraged, where effort and innovation are recognized and rewarded, and where everyone can work in an innovation environment.
